Tilläggslån kan exempelvis användas för att renovera bostaden. Enligt förslagen ska även det så kallade skärpta amorteringskravet tas bort, det vill säga kravet på ytterligare amortering med minst 1 procent om låntagarens samlade bostadslån överstiger 4,5 gånger bruttoårsinkomsten. Det ursprungliga amorteringskravet som styrs av belåningsgraden blir kvar. Förslagen innebär också att en ny lag om begränsning av bostadskrediter ersätter Finansinspektionens föreskrifter och allmänna råd om amorteringskrav och bolånetak. Syftet med förslagen är bland annat att minska trösklarna på bostadsmarknaden och att fler ska kunna äga sin bostad. Den nya lagen och lagändringarna börjar gälla den 1 april 2026.
